I am streaming of course
MLOVE: What is your favorite tool, device or app to play music from?
Holger Weiss: My smartphone followed by the iPad
MLOVE: What style of music or song is your favorite at the moment? Is it produced with traditional instruments or is it a technologically / digitally produced song?
Holger Weiss: I really like Aupeo’s ‘Adult Pop’ category, currently with artists like Switchfoot or No Doubt. Pretty solidly produced stuff usually.
MLOVE: What is your preferred listening format? (mp3, online clips, live, CD, vinyl…)
Holger Weiss: What kind of question is that? I am streaming of course
Streaming, Mobile Radio
I have to admit – I am not really a music video fan.
MLOVE: How is your music library or collection typically stored, displayed or shared?
Holger Weiss: I gave up maintaining my own library, I am using nearly 100% online collections and shared playlists.
MLOVE: Do you watch music videos? Has your music video preferences changed from back in the day when they were available on MTV to currently, where we can find video clips mostly on platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, Tape, etc?
Holger Weiss: I have to admit – I am not really a music video fan.
MLOVE: How do you consume music from your mobile device? Buying, listening to, recommending through social media platforms….
Holger Weiss: I am streaming usually AUPEO and like sharing it of course.
Music Industry
MLOVE: Do you feel social media and other music sharing tools help to promote an artist’s success?
Holger Weiss: I am very sure. I mean there are artists which have over 30Mill. followers or fans – that is phenomenal. Of course social networks help to promote new stuff and unknown artists.
MLOVE: How important are cooperations between artists, labels, marketers, brands in the 21st century? Does Mobile technology give artists more independence?
Holger Weiss: It’s super important and yes, mobile technology in general gives artists a great independence. Imagine how they now can communicate from anywhere with their fans easily. Before social media, one needed marketing machinery…
MLOVE: In your opinion, what is the main source of income for artists today?
Holger Weiss: For most artists, it’s still selling their music. There are artists who have successfully turned the business into anything but music, such as merchandising etc. I am sure that’s the way of the future.
Future
Mobile ticketing could change the concert business 100%
MLOVE: What is your vision for the Future of the Music Industry?
Holger Weiss: There has to be a revolution of current licensing structure.
MLOVE: What vision / motivation was the passion behind the choice to create your music service?
Holger Weiss: AUPEO is a great tool to discover music and new artists. We saw very early the need for a service and the need for a cross-platform offering. Today AUPEO’s service is available in some 35Mill. devices worldwide. Even in automobiles!
MLOVE: Is there any kind of Mobile service you wish we still used more popularly in the music industry?
Holger Weiss: Mobile ticketing could change the concert business 100%
