MLOVE & Reeperbahn Festival present a brand new event format:

Mobile x Music, September 20, 2012, Hamburg

MLOVE Mobile x Music Speaker Beverly Jackson

Beverly Jackson, Sr. Director of Marketing, Strategic Alliances and Social Media

Streaming, Mobile Radio

I often fall in love with an artist or a song during GRAMMY season

MLOVE: How is your music library or collection typically stored, displayed or shared?

Beverly Jackson: I have so much music and I’m trying to declutter and let go of non-keepsake pieces. Ultimately, I’d like to dump “all” of my CDs and have my music stored in an online library with a couple of backup copies. The very special vinyl keepsake pieces are stored in plastic cases away from dust, humidity and temperature.

MLOVE: Do you watch music videos? Have your music video preferences changed from back in the days when they were available on MTV to currently, where we find video clips mostly on platforms like YouTube, Vimeo, Tape, etc?

Beverly Jackson: I don’t watch music videos as a general practice. If a notice pops up on one of my social media channels I may check out a video but it’s just not a part of my current music experience. However, I am a massive fan of online radio – less focused on playlists but more around similarities in style and genre. My office is always the source of music and reflective of my mood. My Pandora or Slacker station will give visitors insight into my emotions for the day.

MLOVE: How do you consume music from your mobile device? Buying, listening to, and recommending through social media platforms….

Beverly Jackson: I regularly buy newly discovered music when I use Shazam or Soundtracking. I often fall in love with an artist or a song during GRAMMY season and begin to refresh my music library with artists from the show.

You & Your music

I have some special keepsake vinyl pieces but I live a very active, on the go lifestyle

MLOVE: What is your favorite tool, device or app to play music from?

Beverly Jackson: I love Soundtracking and Shazam for many of the same reasons. When I’m out and about, in the car, or the mall I reach for my smartphone and fire up the Soundtracking app. I share that song with my social ecosystem as a means of communicating my feelings at the moment in time; it acts as a mobile bookmark for my emotive state in time. The proliferation of the Shazam app to include multi-medium content beyond music is exciting to me. The ability to share music or other exclusive content from some of my favorite television shows or movies is equally exciting.

MLOVE: What style of music or song is your favorite at the moment? Is it produced with traditional instruments or is it a technologically / digitally produced song?

Beverly Jackson: When it comes to musical interest I’m very much a traditionalist. I love lyrics first and the music second. I want a story…take me away, make me love, inspire me, encourage me or take me back in time to a happier place – that’s what I want from my music. As a result I tend to like older music in the R&B, Hip-Hop or Country music categories produced with traditional instruments and by real musicians without the aid of technology to enhance their voice. I told you…I’m a music throw back!

MLOVE: What is your preferred listening format? (mp3, online clips, live, CD, vinyl…)

Beverly Jackson: I have some special keepsake vinyl pieces but I live a very active, on the go lifestyle which means an mp3 player. Oddly, I don’t have music on my actual phone which is my small effort to occasional unplug and be less accessible.
