Le Blanc: Photo Art on Instagram
Le Blanc is serious. Serious about art and the composition of his brilliantly curated photos on his Instagram feed. His Photo Art on Instagram depicts architecture in its detail and its glorious manifestation of its own art form and presence in our urban culture.
Sebastian Weiss is @le_blanc on Instagram and more than 100,000 followers are commenting and “hearting” new pictures with the same passion that Sebastian puts into making his art form.
Passionate about concrete aesthetics and the beauty seen in city shapes and urban moments.
Sebastian is onto something: just last month, he was announced an official photo columnist for AD Architectural Digest – the bible of contemporary architecture & art magazines with a history going back to 1920.
But from that history comes the openness of AD to explore new grounds and now Le Blanc can share his architectural art pieces with an even wider audience, one that might just find their way around these mobile and social media apps.
It seems to be more than just pictures. Rather a unique perspective. This might be explained by the artist’s background combining linear and organic, science and art, tech and love.
It gets more serious: at the end of October, Le Blanc is participating for the first time at the FUCECCHIO FOTO FESTIVAL art exhibition near Florence, Italy. Sebastian is excited, honored and just his humble self when he talks about all the recent achievements. He will go to see his art featured next to renowned Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar photographer Gian Paolo Barbieri.
While all Le Blanc pictures are made digital and foremost meant to be seen on a small screen, a work of art will still find its right place in a museum or festival gallery in good old analog form – hanging on a wall.
Can serious art find its place in a stream of food, cats & dogs and fingernails?
Instagram has been the mobile gallery of sorts for a new bread of artists and serious photographers that follow a theme and care about the curation of their feeds to their devoted users. Even after Facebook bought Instagram in 2012, the photo sharing service is not stopping and currently counts more than 150 million active users.
Instagram turned 3 years on October 6 this year and has been by all counts a smashing success in the recent mobile startup history. If you can even speak of history in this nascent mobile economy – where instant success has been often in preparation for several years and failed apps abandoned on the road.
Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom’s fortune has accelerated recently – after an announced sale of $1 billion to Facebook in September 2012 followed a lackluster stock performance of Facebook stock. But, if the Instagram team held on to their shares (by the current FB stock price of $50), Instagram’s sale price would have amounted even to $1.4 billion.
We are working on new algorithms that will help discover more valuable content even better,
said Kevin at a recent event in Berlin, where Sebastian was pleased to hear the founder of Instagram share his ideas for helping grow the global photo community.
If Kevin is right, we will see Le Blanc in the next three years growing his audience and building on his career as the curator of architectural gems around the world by keeping a keen eye on his beloved concrete aesthetics.
Good Luck, Sebastian!
LE BLANC – ABOUT SEBASTIAN WEISS
Sebastian went through an inspiring transformation, starting from civil engineering studies at one of Germany’s excellence universities in Dresden. Then he continued at Berlin University of the Arts (UdK), where he dedicated himself to Digital Design. Like merging an engineer’s brain with an artist’s heart.
His pictures are a relaxation to the eye and mind. Pure. Clear. Cutting out any overflow, which actually rules the urban life nowadays. Sebastian succeeds to turn the complex urban shapes into simple compositions without curlicue and free of distraction. Remarkably, he manages to surprise with every new picture, while the series remains continuous and recognizable in style. That is what makes it seem universal and endless. Via continuous tone, filter and smooth atmosphere.
The shots are taken with a Panasonic Cam, an iPhone and Instagram’s Brannan filter – always. It proves that technology is not the key in avant-garde photography. It is rather about finding the beauty in every single piece of the puzzle that constitutes our world today every day.
