Justin Ellington, the Power of Sound
Mobile has created an entirely new sort of jam session.
“Digitization has changed what is defined as collaboration. Now you can create across distances. Is this better? What about sharing a physical space and bouncing ideas off one another,” says producer & composer Justin Ellington. “I take your story and I give it back to you audibly.” “The new band might look different, but it’s coming back. Technology creates immediate opportunities. Mobile speeds up the process. You don’t need instruments. Your phone can make the beats.”
Mobile not only connects the fan to the artist, but to music itself. The way we express ourselves is enhanced not only by what we listen to on our phones. Maybe we can’t sing or play an instrument, but now we can find the musician within ourselves. Because we all have a story to tell.
Technology creates immediate opportunities for music. Justin Ellington
Composer, Producer
Justin Ellington is a composer/producer based in New York. As a composer he has worked with Tony Award winning directors and designers, and as a producer Ellington has shared the studio with many GRAMMY Award winning recording artists; and in 2004 Mr. Ellington had joined the GRAMMY Award winning production company Bangladesh Productions.
Bangladesh has contributed music production on albums which have sold more than 30 million copies. Artistic collaborations include Beyonce, Lil Wayne, Ludacris, and Nicki Minaj.
As a director of musical theater at the Freddie Hendricks Youth Ensemble of Atlanta , Justin shared the stage with the likes of Broadway stars Sahr Ngaujah(Fela), Saycon Sengbloh(Wicked, Hair, Fela), and Kenan Thompson(Saturday Night Live, Fat Albert)
Recently Justin traded the studio for a lecture hall, where he served as a guest lecturer/resident musician at Princeton University. The program involved collaborating with students on an innovative approach and project known as Dramatizing History, which involved the creation of developing original theatrical works based in social history. These included adaptations using contemporary forms to create new stories or more conventional forms to explore unlikely historical relationships or minor historical events. Student musicians, creative writers and performers performed the resulting presentation along with team with Ellington and his theater partner & award winning playwright, Will Power.
