Thomas Goetz is executive editor at WIRED Magazine and author of the book The Decision Tree: Taking Control of Your Health in the New Era of Personalized Medicine.
The New York Times called The Decision Tree “sophisticated and thought-provoking” and The Wall Street Journal chose it as a Top 5 Health book for 2010. As executive editor, Goetz supervises all editorial coverage at WIRED. Since he joined the magazine in 2001, WIRED has been nominated for 18 National Magazine Awards and has won nine times, including the top award for general excellence three times. He also writes frequently for the magazine on the confluence of medicine, health and technology, and his work has been selected for both the Best American Science Writing and the Best Technology Writing anthologies.
Goetz has begun working on his second book, tracing the emergence of the germ theory and the search for a cure for tuberculosis.
An English major at Bates College, he holds a Master’s degree in American literature from the University of Virginia and a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Berkeley. He lives in San Francisco with his wife and two boys.
