Service design in the era of hyper-connectivity

MLOVE speaker Mark Curtis is the Chief Client Officer of Fjord.

Prior to the upcoming MLOVE ConFestival Europe (June 27-29) he found the time for this brief interview.

MLOVE:

Mark, we are looking forward to meeting you at the MLOVE ConFestival Europe. What is on your mind, what can we expect from your presentation?

Mark:

Over the next five years, the way in which we experience the world around us will change significantly. The evolution of the internet of things will blend the real and digital environments and we will enter the age of hyper-connectivity.

This is an advanced age of connectivity that will embrace the digitization of everything. More devices will communicate with each other and the internet with each receiving, processing, displaying and creating vast amounts of data. Time and location layering will change the shape of content and interaction, and interfaces will become more human through voice and gesture.

MLOVE:

What does this mean for the user?

Mark:

These trends will push the user to become the operating system and present service designers with challenges around designing for invisibility as smart systems become the epicenter of daily life.

MLOVE:

Do you have a vision of how design through mobile could change our future for the better?

Mark:

The shifts that I mentioned also have far wider socio-economic implications. Seamless service design and hyper-connectivity will spark a revolution of responsibility where people are far more in control of their own health, wellbeing and education than ever before.

My talk will highlight the pivotal role service design will play in shaping this new environment and discuss how it will, in turn, lead to the birth of a much more responsible society.
