Peter Hale, I know nothing of Mobile
Small is beautiful. Small can create extraordinary things. And often it is the most extraordinary that is observed or created through the simple desire for joy. “Really small things can bring immense joy. Personality goes a long way when it comes to simple joy,” says Peter Hale, designer & co-founder of GBH.
“Basic ingenuity can bring joy. The random collisions and the way things come together can bring joy. Analog can be joyful—there’s a humanity and warmth which is often lacking in digital.” Indeed.
To fully embrace the possibilities of mobile technology, we need to un- derstand one thing. And this one thing must be at the heart of everything we do.
Mobile is nothing if it is not human.
So what I’m talking about is finding joy in simple things by being thoughtful and making more of less. Peter Hale
Peter Hale is a designer and co-founder of the branding & advertising agency GBH.
Peter likes to do things differently but has, after long reflection, decided to bow to convention and write this biography firmly in the third person.
Since its inception ten years ago GBH has continuously ranked as one of the most awarded agencies in the UK based on its creative achievement and has created game-changing work for international clients such as Eurostar, Virgin Galactic, Apple, PUMA, and Philippe Starck.
GBH has proved unique in the industry by avoiding working in any particular niche or producing work of any one type. Through a belief in the power of an original idea to re-invent a business and with the determination to never give up on a project, the agency has worked in many different worlds and created the most varied and eclectic portfolio of work. Some highlights include the creation of a venetian gondola, a hundred million eco-shoeboxes, a Beverly Hills Hotel full of monkeys, a space rocket and a widely discredited mobile phone!
Peter divides his time between designing, copywriting, art directing and travelling. He has an MA from the Royal College of Art, lives in London and is compiling a book on faded red cars.
